Analyst firm IDC has published its latest predictions for global smartphone shipments, with an emphasis on the trend that could see China overtake the US by the end of 2012. IDC thinks that China will account for 26.5% of all smartphone shipments this year, compared to 17.8% in the US. By 2016, it also expects India and Brazil to take third and fourth places with respective market shares of 8.5% and 4.4%, both overhauling the UK. Which – as we’ve noted before – represents big opportunities for digital music services in China, India and Brazil that place an emphasis on their mobile apps. We’ve been covering Saavn and Dhingana in India recently, but intend to dig into China and Brazil more in the near future.
