Hot on the heels of its partnership with Green Day, Rovio has turned the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury into one of its Angry Birds characters. Not for a game, though: for charity. The company has released a cartoon animation of the Mercury bird to support this year’s Freddie For A Day fundraising event, and the Mercury Phoenix Trust charity. The clip features Queen’s ‘Bicycle Race’ track, and promotes a limited-edition t-shirt of the Freddie bird which is being sold to benefit the charity. “We’re happy to help keep Freddie’s memory and music alive for new generations of fans,” says Rovio’s CMO Peter Vesterbacka. Could more music partnerships follow for the Angry Birds franchise?
