There’s plenty of buzz this week around the new album from The xx, thanks to an innovative album-stream campaign on the band’s own site. Fans can listen to the full album on the site, or via embedded widgets on various partners’ sites. The science bit: the site also visualises where in the world fans are listening to the stream, and how it’s being shared from person to person – the link was initially sent out to a single fan. Microsoft is involved as a “technology partner” on the XL Recordings-signed band’s site – its latest music-related HTML5 partnership. The site is designed to work as well on tablets as on computers, too.
