Who needs a smartphone to identify songs playing in TV shows? Well, apart from the hundreds of millions of people who need smartphones to etc etc etc. But people with Sony’s Bravia connected TVs will now be able to tag tracks using their remote control AND then add them to their Sony Music Unlimited collection, if they use that service. “The scenario is that when you are watching a TV show and wonder ‘who sings that song?’ — now, with a push of a button on the remote control, [you] can identify any song that’s being played during the show, and the technology will show song name and artist information,” Sony’s Robin Shulz tells Evolver.fm. Which is relevant to a niche of a niche (Sony Music Unlimited subscribers with Bravia TVs), but does show one direction this technology is evolving in.
