We’re often sceptical about whizzy-sounding augmented reality campaigns: good for PR, but less so for actual engagement. Maybe the Rolling Stones can strike the right note with their new campaign, though. The Stones, ABKCO Music and Universal Music have become the latest music biz partners for AR startup Aurasma, to promote the band’s latest compilation ‘GRRR!’. The campaign involves virtual 3D gorillas leaping about on real-world landmarks including Big Ben, the Empire State Building and Sydney Opera House: 3,000 locations in 50 cities. Fans who download Universal’s uView iPhone or Android app can watch the animated gorillas, pre-order the album and take photos to enter competitions.
