There is no shortage of companies trying to help music fans discover the latest songs, but The Echo Nest has more data than most. So expect a lot of buzz around its new Echo Nest Discovery playlist, based on the company’s “Discovery Score for every song in the universe” based on its analysis of what people are listening to and talking about online. “The point of this number is to identify songs that are heating up right now, but which aren’t yet big hits, having been created by artists who are not yet established,” explains the company. The chart is initially being launched as a Spotify playlist, which will be updated every week. Its global nature certainly makes it eclectic: in the first playlist, Jessie Ware, Lemaitre and Trijntje Oosterhuis rub shoulders with Goat, Django Django and Girls Generation.
