Music videos service Vevo is seeing plenty of growth from its smartphone and tablet apps (Bulletin, 12-Sep-12), but it will soon be facing stiffer competition from its own technical partner, YouTube. The latter is recruiting a new ‘Technical Program Manager, YouTube Music‘ whose job will include these tasks: “Manage music feature development and launch a mobile music video product”. More details are provided: “You will partner with Product Management, Engineering and Content to design new systems from the ground up that will generate millions of new music videos and surface YouTube’s music video catalog by artist, discography, and genre to users on mobile devices for the first time.” YouTube is already getting more serious about music videos on mobile, with the release of its standalone iOS app that now includes pre-roll ads (and thus more major-label music videos).
