Depending on which report you read, Simon Cowell and Will.I.Am are working on an X Factor-style TV show to find the next Bill Gates (The Sun), the next Mark Zuckerberg (TechCrunch) or the next Steve Jobs (Mashable). And while details of the plans are sketchy, they do at least come from a primary source: the Black Eyed Peas frontman himself, talking at a TV industry conference in London. “We’re working on a project called X Factor for Tech — and it’s going to be out of this world,” he told the audience. “Singing and performance create a couple of jobs. But this will create lots. It’s about getting in touch with youth and giving them a platform to express themselves — whether that’s in science or mathematics.” We’ve learned to be gently sceptical about pop stars announcing grand schemes at conferences, but watch this space.
