For all the speculation about the Google+ social network being very quiet in terms of usage, we’ve always been impressed by its Hangout video chatting feature – and specifically its potential usefulness for music artists. Several have been experimenting, with Ellie Goulding the latest. She’s holding a “digital album signing” Hangout today (8-Oct), with fans being invited to RSVP to an invitation and add Ellie to their Circles on Google+, while also answering a short questionnaire that mixes technical questions (‘What’s your internet speed?’) and music queries (“Have you pre-ordered the album?’). The signing aspect appears to involve Ellie scribbling messages to individual fans who take part, which will then be Photoshopped onto her new album cover and emailed to them.
