The current owners of Myspace, Specific Media, have been talking about their plans to relaunch the social network with an emphasis on music and artists. “We tried to build a social network for the creative community to connect to their fans and for fans to have a great experience as well to explore and find out more about the artists they love,” CEO Tim Vanderhook tells ABC News. “We think we built a great social network for artists. Similar to how LinkedIn built one for business, we think there is a huge gap that we wanted to fulfill.” COO Chris Vanderhook adds that the widely-praised design of the new site is looking beyond the desktop. “A lot of the elements from the design is built for widescreen formats for tablets and smartphones.” The site is currently in a beta trial with “artists, managers, DJs, tastemakers” with a view to launching publicly by the end of 2012.
