In recent times, the BBC has sometimes been criticised for seeming to prioritise TV over radio in its iPlayer catch-up service – for example, when it recently introduced the ability to download TV shows (but not radio shows) in the iPlayer iOS app. Yesterday, the Beeb unveiled iPlayer Radio, which should answer the criticism. Described as “a new dedicated home for BBC radio available across multiple platforms”, it includes an iPhone app, with Android to follow. But the iPlayer Radio website has also been designed to work on tablets and smartphones as well as desktop browsers. The service offers live BBC stations as well as seven-day on-demand catchup, while its apps double as alarm clocks, waking users up with their favourite station.
