SoundCloud is rolling out a new way for its musician users to make money from their uploads. The company has partnered with Getty Images Music to add ‘license’ buttons to its player and widget, which would-be licensees can click to send a request. Users have to own all the rights for the music they intend to license, and will also need to connect their SoundCloud accounts to Getty Images Music, and be approved by the latter. Getty will handle sales and marketing for the content, taking 65% of any sync licensing revenue, with the artist taking a 35% payout.
