Facebook’s VP of corporate development Vaughn Smith has given an insight into changing priorities at the social network, in a speech at the Global Mobile Internet Conference. “As recently as last year 80% of a product review would talk about the desktop website,” he told attendees. “We pivoted our thinking to how can we create the right mobile experience first, and the desktop can catch up later… We’ve trained all our engineers to do mobile first.” That means new features for sections of Facebook including its news feed, timeline and messaging are being developed for mobiles first, then adapted for the desktop. Which makes us wonder what this may mean for Facebook’s music activities, in terms of being reworked for mobile devices too.
