We’ve reported on Chirpify before: a startup that helps artists and brands sell stuff to fans directly on Twitter (Bulletin, 16-Feb-12). Now the company is expanding onto Instagram, allowing people to sell items and music using the hashtag #instasale in the photos that they post. Fans replying with the word ‘buy’ as a comment – if they’re already registered with Chirpify – will be able to buy directly within the Instagram app. Some music artists and companies are using the new feature at launch, including Fearless Records, Kat Graham and Meek Mill and Wale. “If people can’t buy it in-stream it’s not social commerce. It’s advertising,” claims Chirpify CEO Chris Teso.
