More than 70% of streaming radio service Pandora’s listening hours are on mobile devices, so any change to its mobile apps could have a significant impact on the company’s growth – for better or worse. Its Pandora 4.0 update for iPhone and Android looks like a ‘better’ at first glance, with a revamped user interface, more social and discovery features – including the ability to follow “friends and other musical mentors” on Pandora – and individual pages for every artist and song. “This is the biggest update we’ve made to our mobile apps since we first launched,” writes CTO Tom Conrad. “Pandora 4.0 brings a new lean in experience that’s not possible with traditional radio and provides an ideal environment for you to better discover, explore and share your favourite music.”
