The Content Map

The BPI, Pro Music and Music Matters are among the backers of a new website, The Content Map, which aims to provide consumers with a guide to legal digital services for music, film and TV, e-books, games and sports viewing. Focused on the UK, it currently lists 39 download stores, 31 streaming services (including video), six cloud services and six “social media services”. There’s some duplication going on – Rara and Last.fm appear in both the streaming and social media categories, while Rdio is both cloud and streaming – and including iTunes in the streaming music category is a trifle premature. Even so, the UK’s minister for the creative industries Ed Vaizey has praised the launch: “This is an excellent initiative and one which will be very useful to guardians and gatekeepers, educators and the general public.”
