In a good way, we mean. Clear Channel has signed up British DJ Pete Tong to be the face of its new EDM online radio station Evolution. It launches on Monday, and will include a daily two-hour live show from Tong, as well as shows from the likes of Diplo, Wolfgang Gartner and Fatboy Slim, as well as a branded show for dance downloads store Beatport. It’s part of a trend we noticed at the recent ADE conference of dance industry veterans’ desire to teach those young, neon-clad American whippersnappers that there’s more to electronica than Skrillex and Deadmau5. “There’s been a huge rise in the popularity of dance music in America, but it’s been quite polarized on the commercial end of it, the top 4 or 5 percent,” Tong tells the New York Times. “I think there’s so much more to the genre, and that’s what Evolution is going to be about.”
