Big news for auction/payments giant eBay and entertainment firm AEG yesterday, as they announced a big partnership involving ticketing, venue sponsorships and other technology collaboration. eBay’s StubHub subsidiary will now become the “exclusive” secondary ticketing platform for AEG’s venues, as well as its own AXT Ticketing service – making StubHub AEG’s equivalent of Live Nation / Ticketmaster’s TicketsNow. AXT Ticketing will also now use eBay’s PayPal service as one of its payment options in the US and UK, while AEG’s BandMerch subsidiary will start selling artist merchandise on the eBay Marketplace. More tie-ups are promised for the future. It’s the secondary ticketing angle that’s most interesting here – with Live Nation and AEG both having official secondary ticketing partners, what might this mean for other services in that space?
