BitTorrent caused a stir with its partnership with DJ Shadow earlier this year (Bulletin, 24-Jul-12), offering a bundle of music and content as a free download, and sharing a cut of advertising revenues with the artist. Now the company has provided a few stats on how the promotion went: “This bundle received 18.5 million impressions, drove 4 million new revenue opportunities, created 43,000 new fans, and 25,000 subscribers,” explains a spokesperson. No stat on how much actual money DJ Shadow made from the promotion, although that could be due to a desire for privacy rather than disappointing performance. Anyway, now BitTorrent is working with another well-known artist: indie darlings Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. It’s a partnership between BitTorrent and Lost Radio, and involves distributing a bundle of three songs from the band’s last album ‘Hysterical’ plus an unreleased demo. Downloaders must watch a short advert, with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah getting a cut of the revenues.
