When Spotify first launched, it had good reasons for choosing to deliver its service through a desktop application rather than a website. However, as browser technology has improved, and rivals like Deezer and Rdio have innovated with their web-based services, there were mutterings that the desktop-only approach might be dated. Well, now Spotify is available in web browsers, in some countries at least. The company tells TechCrunch that it’s rolling out its beta web version over the coming weeks and months, with a full launch likely for Q1 2013. For now, the website appears to be mirroring the desktop client, but with no third-party apps yet included – we sense that may happen before the full launch.
