Rdio’s sister company Vdio is preparing to launch its private beta in the UK and US, and it seems there’ll be some close links between the two companies. GigaOm reports that Vdio won’t be a Netflix-style streaming service for TV shows and films, as had been predicted. Instead, its terms of service page describes it as more of an a la carte store: “A better way to watch. Rent or buy movies and TV shows worth tuning in to.” Disney, Fox, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, Lionsgate, Paramount, CBS and other big studios are seemingly on board. The Rdio links are what interest us though: users will be able to log in to Vdio with their Rdio accounts, and use gift cards for either service. It hints at potential for a joint subscription at some point in the future too, even if Vdio isn’t going down that billing route for launch.
