British telecoms regulator Ofcom claims that 8% of UK internet users downloaded or accessed music illegally over a three-month period this year, versus 2% for games and software. When asked how confident consumers were that they knew what is legal and what isn’t for downloads, streams and sharing content online, 28% said ‘not particularly confident’ and 17% said ‘not at all confident’. Also, 39% of infringers said they’d stop if cheaper legal services were available, and one in six said they’d stop if they received a single notification letter from their ISP.
