EMI has teamed up with startup Soundrop for a new Spotify app for David Guetta.

It’s called PlayGuetta, went live yesterday, and describes itself as “a social music party allowing fans to listen in realtime with friends and take control of the playlist by voting for the next party track”.

Which pretty much describes Soundrop’s own app, but this is the first time we’ve seen it used for an artist’s own app within Spotify.

There’s a nifty ‘World EQ map’ showing how many people are listening and where in the world they are, the party room to listen and vote up tracks, quick links to play various Guetta releases on Spotify, and feeds of tweets from Twitter and live dates from Bandsintown.

Also canny: the fact that fans are invited to subscribe to Guetta’s mailing list when first launching the app.

Note: the screenshot above was taken at 8am-ish this morning, before the app had been announced. Hence only 146 listeners at the time – we’d expect that to climb like a rocket today.
