There’s a lot of muttering about the downward pressure on app prices, but it seems if you make electronic instruments, you can still charge a premium. Witness KORG’s latest iPad app, KORG iPolysix: “An analog polyphonic synthesizer that’s been carefully designed to take full advantage of the 7.9-inch display of the new iPad mini as well as the iPad.” That means a sequencer, drum machine and mixer, with the app replicating the famous Polysix polyphonic step synthesizer, which originally went on sale in 1981. The app is aimed at professional musicmakers, as you may have guessed, and comes with a feature called Polyshare for uploading tunes to SoundCloud for other people to remix – or downloading their work to remix yourself. And the premium price? £10.49 on the App Store.
