Social platform Tumblr says it now has 170m people visiting the blogs created on its site. “Tumblr has broken into the Top 10 sites in the U.S., and now has a worldwide audience of 170 million people,” writes CEO David Karp on the company’s own blog, in a post aimed at Tumblr owners. “You guys have earned an audience bigger than the biggest TV networks, and you continue to make some of the most thought provoking, insightful, inspiring, funny, diverse, and compelling content being created today.” That 170m figure is up from 120m in January this year, representing strong growth for Tumblr in a year where it worked hard on its mobile apps, and started to add advertising. Oh, and saw Beyonce and Jay-Z reveal their first baby pictures using the platform, which didn’t hurt.
