Fresh from being named as the most-streamed track of 2013 so far on Spotify, Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ has also been confirmed as the most-tagged track on Shazam, with 14.9m people using the app to identify the song over the course of the year. It beat out Fun’s ‘We Are Young’ (8.1m tags) and David Guetta’s ‘Titanium’ (5.8m tags) on the chart, although Rihanna was the most-tagged artist on Shazam with 15.1m tags so far in the year. As usual, Shazam is talking up its ability to spot up-and-coming tracks early thanks to tags, citing Rick Ross’ ‘No Worries’ and Juicy J’s ‘Bandz a Make Her Dance’ as examples this year of tracks that were tagged 200k times before being sold on iTunes. “Up to 85% of the songs that get to number one Shazam’s Tag Charts go on to break nationally, making it one of the most accurate predictive measures for success,” says Shazam’s Will Mills. As for 2013, the company’s tag-based predictions for success include French Montana, Bei Maejor, Alina George, Joey Bada$$, Becky G, Angel Haze, Rhye, Tito Lopez, Baauer and Haim.
