Yes, the Kiss here is the radio station rather than the long-tongued rawk band, sadly (although given Soniqplay’s past launch of a remix app for Motorhead, we wouldn’t rule anything out…)
The UK startup, formerly known as Bounce Mobile, has launched a remixing app for Bauer Media’s Kiss on iPhone, iPad and BlackBerry. It offers a selection of tracks from Kiss’ playlist for fans to remix, including Example, Rizzle Kicks, No Doubt and Ellie Goulding.
Users buy each track for £1.99 via in-app purchase, with each sale counting towards the UK’s official singles chart – an innovation for this app genre. Users can also share their remixes with the world on Twitter and Facebook.
Kiss is promising to promote the app on-air as well as through social networks, which could be crucial in getting the app installed on a decent number of devices. Why BlackBerry? We suspect that decision was based on analysis of Kiss’ audience demographic, representing a sensible step outside the iOS/Android duopoly when it comes to music apps.
