Kickstarter‘s launch in the UK has set off plenty of ripples in the crowdfunding pond. The company has provided some stats on its first month of operations in the UK, noting that more than £2m has already been pledged to British projects by just under 46k backers, with 407 projects launched and 30 already hitting their funding target. Of those initial backers, 39% are from the UK, 23% from the EU and 23% from the US. Rivals aren’t sitting back in the face of Kickstarter‘s initial success though. Indiegogo has just announced its own localised UK site using the Queen’s currency. In fact, it’s also localising its site in Canada, Germany and France. Indiegogo has always been open to creators from around the world, unlike Kickstarter, but they’ve had to raise money in dollars.
