The success of social music game SongPop hasn’t gone unnoticed at Absolute Radio. The British broadcaster has launched its own iOS game called Absolute Radio Rock Off which adopts the ‘guess a song from a short clip’ gameplay model. The game is available for iPhone and iPad as a free download with 25 preloaded tracks, with other songs available in downloadable packs – some for free, and others costing 69p a pop. The game is designed to be played alone or with friends, including a “pass-and-play” mode to play on a single device. Matching SongPop’s success may be a stretch, but it’s an interesting idea – and a useful comparison to the recently-launched Kiss Remixer (Bulletin, 3-Dec-12) as a sign of what radio stations are up to with apps.
