Digital music firm 7digital has bagged another distribution deal with a consumer electronics manufacturer. This time it’s Acer signing on the dotted line to preload 7digital’s app on its Windows 8 devices, including laptops, PCs and tablets. The agreement covers Europe, North America and Asia Pacific, so it’s potentially a big deal for 7digital – although that will obviously depend on how many units Acer shifts of its new devices. The app will tie fully into 7digital’s cloud locker service. Windows 8 could be a challenging platform when it comes to music, though: Microsoft is pushing its own Xbox Music service on Windows 8 devices, complete with a free streaming tier that offers stiff competition for other services. That said, numerous manufacturers want to offer their own digital music services on their devices too, which is why there’s an opportunity for companies like 7digital.
