US band Warren Charles are the latest to experiment with the idea of album-as-app. They’ve released their new album ‘Head in the Clouds’ as an iOS app. It includes a built-in player to stream the album in full, as well as four games based on specific songs, a digital lyric book and artwork, a “hand painted video player”, and photos from the recording sessions. The album is available in two versions across iPhone and iPad. The paid version costs $1.99 and includes all the games and content. But there’s also a free version, which still includes the album stream, but misses three of the games and some other band content. Fans can upgrade the free version via in-app purchase, and they can also buy the album from iTunes from within the app. Warren Charles worked with 504 Apps, a firm set up by Josh Feldman, formerly of TuneWiki, and before that Universal Music Group.
