Just in time for Christmas, Twitter has updated its main user stat, revealing (in a tweet, naturally) that it now has more than 200m monthly active users. As TechCrunch notes, that’s 60m more than the 140m MAUs it reported in March this year. Right now, those 200m users are collectively posting 400m tweets a day, although remember that as Twitter has gone more mainstream, there are a lot more people using it to just read other people’s tweets, rather than tweet themselves. We’d be interested in seeing a breakdown of monthly active tweeters versus monthly active readers, and comparing it to, say, video uploaders versus video viewers on YouTube – it would be a sign of how far along that curve from early adopters to mainstream users Twitter has progressed.
