Mobile analytics firm Flurry has released figures extrapolated from data from the 260k apps using its tools. It reckons that 17.4m new iOS and Android devices were activated on Christmas Day alone, up from average daily activations of 4m earlier in December. What’s more, the company thinks that 328m apps were downloaded for iOS and Android on Christmas Day, up from 242m on 25 December 2011. Also: of those 17.4m new Android and iOS devices activated on Christmas Day, 51% were tablets and 49% were smartphones – although tablets do make a more obvious Christmas gift than smartphones.
