TorrentFreak has been doing some sums based on Google’s publication of the DMCA URL takedown requests it received in 2012 for its search engine. It notes that Google was asked to remove 51,395,353 links to infringing webpages over the course of the year, with music industry body the RIAA being the most active takedown-requester with 7.8m of them. A graph of the requests by week shows the startling rise in takedown notices starting in June, which grew to 3.5m a week by the end of 2012.
