Here’s an interesting sign of the times if ever there was one: Sony debuted a new Destiny’s Child song this weekend, but not on a music website. Instead, the exclusive went to Mashable, which was originally a social-media industry site before deciding there were more page-views to be had in wider entertainment content. Embedded using a SoundCloud widget, the song leads fans to Destiny’s Child’s Amazon album pre-order page. The exclusive sat alongside a new Tumblr for the band, which is encouraging fans to “submit your memory of Destiny’s Child and we will share our favourites”. Even there, fans wanting to hear the new song are being pointed back to Mashable.
