The Chinese government’s China Internet Network Information Center has published a report claiming that China had 564m Internet users by the end of 2012, having added 51m new users during the year. That means internet penetration in the country is up to 42.1%. Mobile is what’s driving the growth, according to the report: 74.5% of internet users are accessing it on their phones, while 420m people are going online from tablets, smartphones and wireless networks. The report also notes that 242m Chinese people are shopping online, while 309m are using microblogging services.
