This may sound like a niche story, but it’s more important than you think. Music licensing service CueSongs is working with a YouTube channel called Global Cycling Network, providing a blanket licence for the channel to source all its music from CueSongs’ catalogue. Artists will be credited in videos featuring their songs, with links to buy the tracks too. Sony, Ministry of Sound, A Songs and Distiller are among the labels and publishers whose works will be used for the cycling vids. With YouTube funding hundreds of YouTube channels as it bolsters  the amount of original content on its service, there’s clearly a wider opportunity here for licensing deals at a level below that which traditional sync licensors would be interested in.
