We were really impressed last year by musician Dan Deacon’s smartphone app, which synchronised fans’ phones at gigs to create a colourful light-show (Bulletin, 29-Aug-12). Now he’s taking the idea a step further: “The developers and I thought it would be awesome to call on you, my fans, to experiment with the light show itself,” he explains on his website. “For my upcoming US tour with Animal Collective, we will be using light shows generated by fans themselves.” The site gets fans to sign in using their Google accounts, then create different lighting effects and test how they look on phone screens. Deacon is working with Wham City Lights on the experiment.
