We’ve written lots about albums as apps over the last three or four years, but how about apps as album companions? Snoop Dogg – currently in his Snoop Lion reggae incarnation – is trying the latter strategy out.
He’s released a free iPad app called Snoop Lion’s Reincarnated: Track Notes App. Produced by book-apps publisher Citia, it’s described as an “app/album mashup… liner notes for the 21st century, multimedia, multi-sensory, made for the fans”.
The app currently includes three free tracks from the album, with the rest to be added on 23 April when the album is officially released – presumably as an in-app purchase.
Each song gets its own lyric video, as well as interviews with producers, writers and video directors to “break down the story behind the song”. Photos and interviews with Snoop himself are also included in the app, plus an “immersive, jaw-droppingly fun 3D visual soundscape”.
It’s Citia’s first music app.
