Mere hours after launching it, Twitter has terminated mobile payment company Ribbon’s in-stream payments functionality. Ribbons used the Twitter Cards technology to process credit card payments without the need for users to leave the related tweets. Ribbon’s CEO Hany Rashwan blogged about the move, saying the company was given “no heads up” about Twitter’s decision. “We’ve had discussions with Twitter in the past, and are eager to find a way to work together,” he continued. “This is clearly something that’s good for not only Twitter, but also for Twitter users all over the world.” What this means for services like Chirpify, which musicians are slowly starting to use to sell music and merchandise, is unclear for now.
