Crowdfunding website Kickstarter has attracted more than 75k project videos from creators since its launch in 2009. Now it’s trying to make more of them with something called Video Mode. The company describes it to visitors as “a new way for you to discover projects on Kickstarter… a full-screen presentation where you can watch every single live project video”. The idea being that they lean back and watch/skip videos from interesting Kickstarter projects, then click on ‘Explore this Project’ buttons when they see something they fancy. It’s slick, and a reminder of the importance of good project videos when trying to drum up funds on Kickstarter. That said, the emphasis remains on project creators to promote their campaigns off Kickstarter to drive traffic, rather than relying on the new Video Mode to do the hard work for them.
