Music-based dating service Tastebuds.fm has announced a seed funding round of $600k, with technology group Black Ocean stumping up the investment. The UK-based startup says it ended 2012 with more than 100k registered users, including 50k who’ve registered through its Spotify app, which launched in May 2012. Tastebuds works by matching people for dating based on their musical preferences, and says it’ll use the funding to “fast-track” its mobile app development, launch in the US and develop new features to connect members offline at gigs, festivals and other meetups. “It’s proved to be an extremely effective social connector as a massive 43% of first messages sent get a reply,” says co-founder Alex Parish. “We’ve also been contacted by half a dozen married couples who met on the site and there’s already a Tastebuds baby on the way.”
