Viacom has taken the wrappers off a new “artist opportunities hub” initiative for its MTV, VH1 and CMT properties, building on the artist websites that it launched for all three last year (Bulletin, 16-Aug-12). The idea is that artists signing up to the new hub will get the chance to be featured across Viacom’s TV and online properties, while also connecting and selling to fans directly from their artist site. “We’re going back to our roots of connecting artists to fans and empowering them to subsidize, support and help their favorite bands get heard, not just by their friends and peers, but by the entire country,” said Viacom Music president Van Toffler in a statement. Opportunities include video airings across MTV, VH1 and CMT channels, as well as support slots at gigs, and featured placement in shows. There’ll also be a tie-in mobile app and “artist commerce tool” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
