The process of booking artists to play private shows is getting a little easier in and around Los Angeles, with the official launch this week of a startup called Gigit. It’s a service for browsing bands who are available to play private parties, complete with price tags, and then booking them. “Get ready to book artists without crying. We know, it’s f’ing rad,” says the dudesome website blurb. “Gigit doesn’t do boundaries. We all want creds for the night it was OUR party and we went hard slash crawled home. Re-define ‘I’m with the band’ with Gigit. Bragging rights are the new black.” And so on. The most famous artist currently available to book through Gigit is Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, who cost $5k to book. All the other artists currently available are paid in the hundreds rather than thousands of dollars. Cynics may suggest this is a service mainly for tech startups and entrepreneurs with money to blow – although hell, that’s not necessarily a bad business model in LA, and particularly a bit north in Silicon Valley. Gigit has raised $365k in seed funding to fuel its ambitions, according to PandoDaily.
