apps

How much money are people actually making from mobile apps? Analytics firm Distimo has taken a guess, with estimates for the average daily revenues for the 200 Top Grossing apps in the US on iOS’ App Store and Android’s Google Play. And? Distimo thinks that together, the 200 most lucrative iOS apps in the US made $5.1m a day in April, compared to $1.1m for the top 200 on Google Play. This is part of a wider report trying to debunk the “myth” that developers are struggling to make money on Android, even if as the figures above indicate, Apple’s store is still 4.6 times more lucrative than Google Play in the US. Distimo’s report doesn’t tell us much about music, mind: it’s more focused on free-to-play games like Rage of Bahamut, Blood Brothers, World at Arms and The Simpsons: Tapped Out, as well as messaging app WhatsApp. For some of those games, at least, they’re making equal or even more money from Android than iOS now.
