Fans are getting excited about Sigur Ros’ new album ‘Kveikur‘, which comes out next week. The band are streaming it on their own website – an increasingly common tactic – but we like what they’re doing in encouraging fans to give feedback. “Listen to our new album kveikur and let us know what it makes you feel, see and imagine,” suggests the streaming page on the site. “Take photos, make videos, or write your thoughts down. just use the hashtag #kveikur on twitter, vine and instagram and we’ll collect the things you make here.” Cue a stream of fans doing just that. “#kveikur sounds like the world is collapsing in on itself, only to have hope stream through and lift your spirits in the last moments,” toots one fan. “#kveikur is the shiznit,” sugggests another more down-to-earth entry. Nobody seems to think the album is underwhelming or rubbish, although a quick search for the hashtag indicates that’s an accurate reflection of responses so far, rather than careful moderation by Sigur Ros’ social media team.
