Daft Punk may have gone with iTunes for the pre-release stream of their ‘Random Access Memories’ album, but now they’re showing a little love for Spotify. The streaming service has a week-long exclusive on the band’s own 10-minute remix of their ‘Get Lucky’ single, while also announcing that the original version has been streamed more than 64m times on Spotify since its release in April. It’s a hint that while Apple may continue to bag the big pre-release exclusives, there are other crumbs for streaming services to scramble for in the weeks after an album comes out, as part of the wider promotional campaign. On a related note, we’re enjoying Evolver.fm’s article about the surge of interest in Canadian soft-rock band Loverboy, simply because their 1981 album ‘Get Lucky’ shows up prominently when people search for the Daft Punk track on Spotify. Marvellous quote: “I don’t mind how they find out about us. Maybe we ‘Got Lucky’ back in the day, but it takes more than luck to survive this long,” says the band’s Paul Dean. “Hey, we’re just a bunch of daft punk-rockers ourselves.”
