Is Instagram video a Vine Killer?!!1! We’re tiring of the debate if we’re honest: it’s quite possible that Facebook and Twitter’s shortform video apps will survive quite happily alongside one another. But the competition should at least ensure they get regular, innovative updates. Witness yesterday’s update to Vine, which added some very interesting new features including the ability for users to “re-Vine” (ugh!) videos that they like, in the same way they’d retweet things on Twitter. That could be good news for music artists posting Vine videos, with fans able to spread them into the feeds of friends. There are also 15 new channels in the Vine app’s Explore section: music, comedy, nature and so on. Users can submit their posts for inclusion in these categories. Again, the music angle has potential to drum up more views for artists’ clips.
