We’ve been enjoying picking over the weekly YouTube channel charts being published by Tubefilter in recent months. Now it’s published a monthly ranking for the 100 most-viewed YouTube channels in June. It’s just as interesting. The biggest music channel isn’t for a specific artist: Turkish music channel MÜ-YAP notched up 183.5m views in June while adding 202k subscribers to take that total to more than 1.4m. Muyap took second place in the overall rankings behind Swedish gaming channel PewDiePie, with Korean rapper PSY in third place with 149.4m monthly views. Other music channels riding high in Tubefilter’s charts include Thai entertainment group GMM Grammy (81.7m views), Rihanna (81.5m), Ryan Lewis Productions (79.3m), One Direction (71.5m) and Taylor Swift (70.7m). Official Vevo artist channels took 22 of the top 100 slots in the chart. But it’s the huge popularity of MÜ-YAP that lingers in the memory, and certainly justifies further investigation in the months ahead.
