BitTorrent is to alpha launch a “publishing platform” in September that will allow users to create their own Bundles of content for free distribution online. The launch of the platform, which follows successful BitTorrent promotional giveaway campaigns for the likes of Alex Day, Public Enemy and DJ Shadow, means users will be able to put together various digital files into Bundles, and set their own gates around them.
“You upload your stuff them decide what you want to unlock it,” BitTorrent VP of marketing Matt Mason tells Music Ally. “Do you ask for an email, pay what you want, pay a set fee, a social unlock or an ad-roll gate?” Mason says that Alex Day’s recent BitTorrent Bundle has been downloaded 2.77m times in total, with 163k of those people clicking through to Day’s iTunes page and 52k visiting his website. BitTorrent is also targeting the film industry with its Bundles, according to Mason, after the success of promotions for films such as Arthur Newman.
